Philadelphia shooting leaves 3 dead, 11 injured
Three people were killed and 11 injured during a shooting that took place on Saturday in the city if Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, reported the New York Times.
The city’s police department said that the shooting took place at South Street, a lively area that has several restaurants and bars, where citizens usually go during the weekends.
One of the officers patrolling the area told the New York Times that a group of active shooters was spotted shooting at people, adding that one officer shot one of the gunmen but it was not clear if the latter was actually hit.
Fourteen injured people were taken to the hospital, but three of them were pronounced dead shortly after. The victims were two men and one woman, although their names have not been released, according to the New York Times.
Inspector D.F. Pace of the city’s police department said that an investigation is taking place to arrest the suspects who started the shooting at midnight on Saturday. He added during a press conference that the scene was littered with several shell casings.
According to the nonprofit organization Gun Violence Archive, about 240 mass shootings took place in the United States since the beginning of the current year.
